Description

Here is my take on M51, The Whirlpool galaxy. This is taken with a C9.25", .63X reducer, SSAG guiding, AVX mount - taken with a baader modified Canon T3. I need to get a bigger lum panel to do flats, because with the reducer this thing vignettes pretty bad. I took this in my backyard. I had to crop some out, and use DBE to pull the rest out. This is 90x90 sec, 10 x 150 sec, 15 x 240 sec. Matching darks, bias frames. All shot at ISO 800. Processed and stacked in Pixinsight. It is an interacting grand-design spiral galaxy. It was estimated to be 23 ± 4 million light-years from the Milky Way. The small galaxy to the left that it's interacting with is NGC 5195. There are also tiny other galaxies that you can see to the bottom left of this galaxy. This is about 3.6 hours of exposure time total.
